trouble receiving messages

I'm getting an error message..."Operation timed out waiting for a response
from the (POP) receiving server." when I try to receive messages. Shows 311
messages are in que, never had this problem before my computer went down for
a couple of weeks for an unrelated problem. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

The first thing to check is to make sure you're not scanning incoming mail
with an antivirus program as that can interfere with downloading mail.
