trouble re-creating an account

I have trouble trying to re-creating an account that i deleted. I keep
getting the message "the user logon name you have chosen is already in use in
this enterprise". I do not see the user account in Active Directory users and
computers. Is there any way to bipass this? How can I correct this problem?
 
Allow for replication of the deleted user object, before trying to recreate
it.

Also, bear in mind there's the Win2000 name and pre-Win2000 name. Is it
possible there's a conflict here??
