Trouble opening an Outlook .pst file; not recognizing as .pst!

I saved my old outlook .pst to use offline on a new computer / email. I also
included contacts and calendar. Using the import or add file options do not
work as Outlook does not recognize the file as .pst. The inbox repair tool
(download) also does not recognize the file. Any thoughts?

Hi,

What was the error you received when you tried to access the pst file.
Also, have you tried opening the pst file through Outlook as in File> Open>
Outlook Data File and browse through the location to the pst file.
Let me know if that helps.

Thanks,

Mittu

Was Outlook completely closed when you saved your Outlook.pst file? IF not,
then it it corrupt so you will need to try again with Outlook completely
closed.

After furious head scratching, MN Rhino asked:

Whatever method you used to save the PST has damaged it sufficiently that
Outlook cannot use it. It's gone.

Thank you for the response. Yes, I tried that approach, the file is
hosed... I am having the system admin restore the account and copy the .pst
again. I probably had Outlook open when the file was copied.

No. Great catch. I am having the system admin restore the account and copy
the file when Outlook is closed. The .pst I am trying to use is corrupted.

Thank you for the help!

Thank you for the "nail in the cofffin" I needed to bite the bullet and go
back to square one. I tried a couple 3rd party demos but they all came back
with rejection... some recommended very expense manual recovery. Not gonna
do it...

Thanks
EB
