Trouble logging in to XP Pro

My computer was working fine until I downloaded and installed adobe acrobat
8.0.1. I had to restart my computer to use the program, so I did. As usual, I
was prompted to sign in to log into Windows XP (Professional Edition). But,
when I signed in, windows started, and then immediately logged out! I can now
not log in with that user name (which is the only one on the computer).
What's going on and how can I fix this? I have tried a system restore, which
has not worked. I am now running in safe mode so I can find help to fix the
problem.

Adobe must have a bug or something on it. The only thing that I can think to
do is reinstall XP Pro.

Good Luck.
God Bless!

How can I do this? When I have tried, I get a message that says "The Windows
Installer Service could not be accessed".

Hi Ben,

I do not believe this is an "userinit.exe" issue because you are able to log
into Safe Mode or the system drive letter has changed issue because you can
enter into Safe Mode.

If you are running in Safe Mode could you enable "Diagnostic Startup" mode
and then try to log into Windows XP.

To enable "Diagnostic Startup":

In the Run dialog box from the Start Menu, type:

msconfig.exe

Under the General tab, select "Diagnostic Startup". Click OK and restart
your system.

Are you able to log into Windows XP?

Also look at your Event Viewer for any clues?

To access the Event Viewer.

Control Panel (Classic View) > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.

I have not tried a diagnostic startup yet, but under event viewer, there are
3 kinds of events that appear. a security event, 2 application events, and
2,258 system events. What does this mean? I will try the diagnostic setup now
before I go to work.
