I just bought a Maxtor External Hard Drive (3000LE) off of eBay. It
connects with USB2. I have tried to format the drive twice now in
Windows XP Professional, and each time it gets to about 75-80%, then
stays there indefinitely. I even let it run overnight to give it
plenty of time, but it was still at 80% this morning.
I have read some Maxtor HD horror stories on other newsgroups, and
hope I'm not another casualty. Are there any other troubleshooting
steps I can take, or does it seem that I've received a faulty product?
BTW - I bought the HD off eBay from wwwconsumerdepot.com (their userid
in eBay). They sent me the HD without a power supply (which they did
not mention in the description), so I had to order one. Now that I've
received the power supply, of course there's a problem, and according
to wwwconsumerdepot.com it's too late to return the defective
merchandise (if it is indeed defective). My advice for any eBayer's,
stay far far away from wwwconsumerdepot.com.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
