Trouble displaying Programs on desktop

Seems like I used to be able to show three columns of programs on my
desktop through Start/Programs. Now I only see the first two columns
and
just the left edge of the third column. I have not changed my video
settings, still using 800X768 pixels. Going to 1024X768 as the next
step
up does not give me a desirable display(too fine), although the three
columns do fit on the screen with this resolution. Is there any other
way I can shorten the length of these columns, so I can see all my
programs, yet not change my screen resolution? I know there is an
option to scroll
this listing, but that too is not very desirable.

Not that this is an answer to your question, but how about organizing your
start menu? Three columns of programs is insane. How can you find anything
on it? And how many of these programs do you actually even use?

Shorten the longest "Progam name". Go to Start, Programs, and
Right-Click on the Program with the longest name, Select Properties, and
then trim the name in the box to something shorter. The "width" of the
Program column will now reduce to the next longest program name. So if
you need more room just locate the "new" longest name and trim it like
you did the first one. And so on.
