My Dad is having trouble getting onto the internet and outlook on windows xp.
He has AVG antivirus and it is telling him there are updates but when he
connects to the internet (tiscali) he is told he is connected but the page is
not active and so he cannot install updates. Not sure of the exact messages
but I wondered if anyone else was having this problem. I have tried
restoring his computer to an earlier date but this does not help. I know
this is not much information but it may be a really simple answer???

There may be a simple answer or not - unfortunately we don't have enough
information about your Dad's machine to give you focused help. The
first thing to do is the normal scanning for viruses and malware since
infestation is one of the most common reasons for lack of connectivity.

Here are general removal steps to go through systematically:

If you or your Dad can't go through them - and there is no shame in
admitting this isn't your cup of tea - he should take his machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA).

Once you know the machine is clean, if your Dad is still having problems
post back with more information. Here's a link that will help you see
what details to include in your post:
