I am getting the this error message when I open some of my e-mails in outlook

"trie file open error"

C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\SMARTT~1\Lists\1003
\stocksca.dat:

I am using Windows XP and Office 2003. When I open some
emails I get the above error. Does anyone know how I
can
get rid of this message?

Both XP pro and Office 2003 are up to date with everything.

You have a problem with an add-in.

I have been having the same error for a while but got 2 errors, the one you describe and another one for stocksuk.dat.

Never got around to fixing it until I found it still existed after upgrade to Office 2007!

A fix, but I have no idea what it does, is to navigate to the folder called out and you will see pairs of xml and dat files
A File called stocksca.xml will exist without a corresponding .dat file

Delete the xml file and you will not see the error message any more, I presume you have removed some functionality, but as it didn't work and you haven't missed it the last few years, who cares?
