Hi guys.

I've got a tricky problem.

I use a batch file to backup my emails and my documents folders. Is it
possable using does commands in my batch file to encrypt the files i'm
backing up so that no one else can read them ?

Im running windows xp pro, and another computer has windows xp home.

Thx

It's possible. It would be "tricky" to set up and the probability of losing
your data at some point is quite high. EFS relies on certificates with keys
to encrypt/decrypt files. The keys are stored on your computer. If something
happens to your computer the keys are lost and the files can no longer be
decrypted. It is possible to store the certificate on a floppy disk and then
import it to another computer. The process is not very intuitive. If you
want to go this route then you must be able to encrypt a file on your
computer, backup the certificate with the keys, copy the file to another
computer (which has to be running XP Pro), import the certificate, then
decrypt the file. Until you can do this successfully do not encrypt your
backups. Notice that to use EFS XP Home will not work. XP Home does not
support EFS. If the XP Home computer is using NTFS you could copy your
encrypted files there but you would not be able to decrypt them on that
computer. If somethng happened to your computer the data would be lost.
