transparent background 0n pictures

I create a .tif or .pgn file with a transparent background in photoshop and
then insert it into Powerpoint 2002. The picture ends up with a color black
background.
I am running windows XP home. This is a new development. It is only
happening recently. I can still save the picture as a .gif and get the
transparent background. How do I fix this problem.

Which version of Photoshop are you using? Probably you just need to turn off
color management.

Hi

I have a similar problem. I use PPT 2003 usually and PNGs and TIFFs with
transparent backs work fine but in XP (2002) they have black backgrounds. I
havent found a real solution (yet) but using the tranparent colour tool in
the picture toolbar is a work around. If you save the 2002 file it will also
work fine in 2003! Strange indeed.

Me again (its daytime in the UK)

Spurred on by your post I thought I'd try to solve the problem. I have
clients who report the same problem when they run ppts I have created in 2003.

My wife has the laptop with 2002 PPTon so I installed a copy on my computer
(which also has 2003) In this copy transparent PNGs work just fine in 2002.
It must be an update or something in 2003. (The laptop version isn't updated
regularly as I want to emulate clients who dont bother!)

It could be a service pack / fixes or creates the problem!

Sounds like it is a service pack problem / fix. in which case I will still
get unhappy clients! I have an old computer in the garden office with PPT xp
no service packs (no internet) and sp2 and 3 on disc so I'll go and play when
the snow melts a bit and post back.

Amazing it took 3 service packs to fix

or maybe sp2 made the problem?

Thanks for reporting back BTW

Actually it wouldnt accept SP2 for some reason so that might have worked but
sp3 definitely cures it. At least I'll know what to tell people that complain!

Thanks for the quick response from all of you. I turned off color management
and solved my problem as was suggested.

Again, thanks.
