Transitions 'freeze up' the video segments

Hi.
I have crafted a video by piecing together several video 'chunks'. These
video 'chunks' are actually part of a larger video that I have 'split' into
these chunks. The video was recorded using XFire's built-in video recording
tool for in-game recording.

Everything plays fine through the clips, and with the background music I
have added.

However, if I add transitions between the video chunks, there is a problem.
When it reaches the transition, the video will "lock up" until it reaches the
next non-transitioned chunk. The music keeps playing, and the timeline moves
forward.. but the picture comes to a halt.

I suspect maybe it has something to do with the video format, but I am now
sure. I would really appreciate assistance in determining why this happens.

Thanks!

You may have an issue with incompatibile
source files and also you may need to update
your video driver.

As a test to see if the video driver is at issue
try reducing your Graphics Hardware Acceleration
as per the instructions in the following article:

If it improves the issue, you need to search the
support website of your Video adapter's mfg. for
an updated video driver.

I have verified that the drivers for my 8800 GT are up-to-date using the
latest available drivers from nVidia.

I guess it's just the video codec used on the source video.

I should have re-rendered it to AVI first before splitting it up. :p

Any way to save the 'split points' and use them on a re-rendered AVI, or do
I have to place them all again?
