Maxtor Mini One Touch 3
Gateway Desktop GT5404
Vista Premium

Backups have been running for over a month on schedule. Recently I
began to get Could not create shadow copy, the writer experienced
transient errors.

Volume Shadow Service is on.
Firewalls and Virus scans have been disabled for testing. (Worked
before without disabling)
Maxtor Drive is accessible.

Reinstalled Maxtor Drivers
Rebooted

Nothing on Maxtor site. Looks like a VISTA problem because I have
seen simialr posts with no answers.

We're still trying to identify the cause of these errors. I don't have a
good answer for you yet, unfortunately.

Thanks. This is really crazy. I also get WMI errors when trying to check
dependencies for the Volume service.

We had one customer with a new Dell report this issue. He worked with Dell
Support and it sounds like it was an imaging issue. The customer did a clean
install and the problem disappeared.

I know that Gateways have also had imaging problems that led to Backup
issues. I would recommend contacting Gateway support for assistance.

Yep, the other customer complained of WMI errors as well. I have no solution
for you other than to reinstall.
