Access 97 and/or 2000
unable to open a linked text file. file can be opened in design view only.
The file was linked via
DoCmd.TransferText acLinkDelim, Route, "TestLink", "D:\Daily
Operations\Reporting\Test\05-02per". The following message is displayed:
The Microsoft Jet Database Engine cannot open the file '05-02per'. It is
already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view
its data.

Access permission is Admin with all access boxes checked. the database is
not shared. The same message occurs using the connect property example on the
help file.

Does it work if you change the file's name to give it the ".txt"
extension, and link to the file using that name?

Thanks Dirk, the .txt resolved the problem.

IIRC, one of the Jet updates limited the list of linkable files to a
specific set of extensions. There's a KnowledgeBase article on it, but
I don't have the URL handy.
