Transferring from one drive to another

How can I transfer the installation that I have put onto
one hard disk to a new one that I have installed without
going through the rigmarole of a new install

use some binary disk copying tool (ghost, Symantec partition magic, Acronis
Partition Expert, or some other of your choice) and then re-activate your
copy.
