I just got a new computer and would like to transfer my files from my old to
my new computer. Both computers have Windows XP and both are on my home
network. I'm not computer savy but I can follow instructions. Well most of
the time anyhow. lol When I use the "files transfer wizard" it doesn't give
me the option to choose home networking. Does anyone know why that option
would not be highlighted? I have tried troubleshooting but still not able to
complete the task. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks alot!!

Before running the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, make sure that
the old and new computers can communicate with each other over the
network. Make sure that firewall program isn't blocking
communication.

Then, start the Wizard, go to the "Select a transfer method" screen,
and select "Home or small office network".

If that option isn't there, what options do you see on the "Select a
transfer method" screen?

I'm sorry, but I didn't give enough information in my first reply.
Here's the full thing.

Before running the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, make sure that
the old and new computers can communicate with each other over the
network. Make sure that a firewall program isn't blocking
communication. Then, follow these steps:

1. Start the Wizard on the new computer.

2. Follow the Wizard's prompts until you get to the "Now go to your
old computer" screen.

3. Start the Wizard on the old computer.

4. Follow the Wizard's prompts until you get to the "Select a transfer
method" screen.

5. Select "Home or small office network".

6. Click "Next". You'll know that the Wizard has found the network
connection when it gets to the "What do you want to transfer" screen.

If those steps don't work, please describe what actually happened in
each step.

I was able to transfer a file from my old computer to my new computer. On the
"Select a transfer method" screen the only access available is:

Direct Cable
Floppy
Other
The Home or small office network method is not highlighted.

Thanks!

I made sure the firewall on both computers were disabled. I ran the wizard
again. Still no option for home or small office network.

Did you make sure that the computers can communicate with each other
over the network before running the Wizard?

Did you follow the steps that I listed in the same order?

If so, I don't know what the problem is.
