Transferring Files and Settings via Cat 5e Crossover

I want to use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to
move Outlook Express settings and files from an old to
new computer, both of which run XP. The Wizard instructs
me to use a Serial cord, but both Microsoft and HP
(manufacturer) say I can use the CAT 5e Crossover Patch
Cable, which has two male plugs that fit an ethernet
connection.

I need to transfer from PC to PC WITHOUT a hub or other
mid-point device. Please advise how to use the CAT 5e
Crossover Patch with the Transfer Wizard. Thanks in
advance for your help.

I have never done it this way before, but I'm you can figure it out.Just be sure to get a CROSSOVER CABLE not a regular Cat 5 patch cable.A CROSSOVER is wired differently than a plain old patch cable.

If you set up a LAN connection in Network Connections (create a
connection, and follow the 'home or small office network') you should
then be able to see one machine from the other (in My Network places -
View workgroup computers) - ensure they have different Computer names by
the same Workgroup one. On each ensure there is a folder that can be
shared, then you can use that across the net as output from FAST - read
Gary Woodruff's article on Files and settings Transfer at
