I'm getting a new computer. Can I transfer to the new computer
a lot of the data which I have saved, e.g., Favorites, files, other
programs, etc.,
and if so, how can I do this? Your comments are welcomed.

If you look at the help for "Files and Setting Transfer Wizard" I think that
is what you want to use. It allows you to burn a cd with all the thing you
mentioned. Run it on the old PC and then again on the New. Check the help
anyway. It also works on other versions of Windows if the old PC is not
Windows XP.

You will find the program at Start->All Programs->Accessories->System
Tools->Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

Or if somebody has messed with your system just look in
%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\usmt\migwiz.exe

%SYSTEMROOT% is probably C:\WINDOWS in most cases, or just do a seach for
migwiz.exe.

Hope this helps

It will not transfer programs. You will need to reinstall them - such as
Microsoft Office, games, etc.

Use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. See the article by MVP

Good luck

Many thanks! I'm going to make that CD right after lunch.

Before you do it, be aware that the answer isn't entirely correct. Yes, you
can transfer data files that way, but programs can't be transferred--neither
that way, nor any other way. Because installed programs have many pointers
to them, in the registry and elsewhere, you can generally not do this
(except for a very occasional tiny self-contained program). You will have to
reinstall the programs on the new computer from their original media.
