Transfering music to movies--adjusting sound?

A

Alison

I have recently been transfering videos from my digital
video camera to my computer using Movie Maker 2 to watch
them. Once I place my clips in the storyboard timeline, I
want to be able to add music in the background to the
movie. I have been dragging the selected music to the
Audio/Music line and I understand that under Tools I can
adjust the audio form video and the audio/music. The
problem is I am not being able to save the movie using 1/2
the video clips own audio and 1/2 the selected music.
Sometimes I want to hear what a person is saying on the
clip, but I would like to hear some music at the same
time. What am I doing wrong? How can I accomplish this
task and be able to save audio from both the clips and the
music? Also, when and how do I use Clip to Audio box
(mute, fade in fade out, and volume?
Sincerely, Alison

Hi Alison,

The Tools > Audio Levels setting is for the overall movie, not for an
individual clip.

What you probably want is to also use the Volume... control for the
individual clips. Select the audio part of a video clip, one on the
Audio/Music track, the a right mouse click and the Volume.... control.

The mute is to quiet a clip totally. Fade in and fade out takes the volume
from nothing to full or back to nothing - but it happens in less than a
second. Use it to just smooth out an abrupt ending when you split a clip's
audio.

All in all, you're playing with the right things. And don't be afraid to
split a clip on the timeline - split it in 3 if you want to adjust the
volume of just the middle part.
