Hi,

How are the systems connected? The following links help you create a home
network and then access the data back and forth.

Windows XP: Set up your computer for home networking:

Windows XP: Set up a wired network:

connect the 2 with an Ethernet cable,
then use windows networking wizard,
create folders that are shareable by right clicking into their properties
and move them around
with file manager/explorer...
If you have a firewall and not connected to the internet,
it may help by temporarily disabling it until
you can configure it with you networked computers...

No, this won't work. Regular ethernet cables have to go through a hub,
switch, or router. For directly connecting two computers, you need a special
kind of ethernet cable, called a "crossover" cable.

i can connect my laptop directly to my pc with an ethernet...
maybe i have a magic computer system...

No, what you have is the special kind of ethernet cable I mentioned--a
crossover cable. A regular cable will *not* work.

hmm, its the same cable that plugs into the router from my pc. but i can
and I have disconnected it from the router and plug it into my laptop and
transfer files at will..... I know its an ethernet cable because those are
the kind of ports i have on my machines.

maybe my intel motherboard has sumtin special for this.

in any case I am not the one with the issue because "I" am set up to work pc
to laptop or pc to router to laptop or pc to internet to laptop for "my"
file transfers...

The crossover cable is similar to a regular cable, except that the internal
pair assignments are swapped.

Crossover Cable? - KnowledgeBase - Support - National Instruments:

If you're able to network two computers directly (without a hub or any
intermediate device), then you're using a crossover cable only.
