I have two hard drives one in my computer and the other outside. I want to
put the new hard drive in but don't want to lose the files I have on the old
one, there is a few dll.s missing that is why I am going to reinstall Windows
XP with 1&2 service pack on the new but larger hard drive. Can I hook up the
old hard drive and transfet my old files to the new hard drive or do I have
to try to back up on a CD.
Thank you to anyone that can help me.

You can connect the old drive to transfer your files but how about cloning
the old hard drive with the new hard drive and perform an in-place upgrade
(aka repair installation). Before I would do an in-place upgrade, I would
run "sfc /scannow" to see if your dll files problem is corrected.

Usually new hard drive come with a disk that allows you to clone the old
hard drive to the newly purchased one. Sometime you can go to the
manufacturers website and find this utility. Follow their directions and you
should have no problems.

Thank you for the information in your post, I tried running the scannow it
didn't replace the file. Guess I will install xp on the new hard drive and
try to back up everything I can on the old drive. Again thank you for your
help.
