Transfering digital image files

Connecting a camera to USB, or a card to the reader, or a CD in a drive results in the 'Pictures' box appearing, but the 'What do you want to do? area is blank. Suggestions please.
 
I am quite sure full instructions on how to hook up the camera to your
machine are to be found in the camera manual. What exactly are your
problems?
