Transfer Windows to a different computer if needed ?

Hi Everyone,

I have my original Dell WinXPPro SP1a reinstall disk that was shipped with
my Dell Dimension 4550 computer . Which I have used with nlite many times to
create both SP2 or SP3 slipstreamed disk's. Recently someone told me that a
OEM reinstall disk is "locked to" the manufacturer's Motherboard , and
couldn't be used for a Windows reinstall if I had to replace my Dell computer
with another brand .
So can nlite be used to create a slipstreamed reinstall disk , that could be
used on any brand of computer ?
And would it be legal ? Do I have the right to transfer my Windows product
to a different computer, (if my original computer becomes non-repairable) as
long as only have it installed on one computer?
Thanks .

NO...to all of your questions
you purchased a machine with an OEM version of XP that is tied to that
machine only.
The Slipstreamed versions you created are still tied to that Dell...they
will not install on another machine.

A new machine would need another copy of XP..wether you purchase a retail
copy or again a machine with an OEM version pre-installed is up to you.

Most Dells of that vintage used a pretty-much standard OEM Windows CD. It
should work for installing, but the licence key may not activate. Strictly
speaking you need a new OEM key.
