I'd like to buy a new hard drive for my PC, and I'm wondering how to install
it as my new C: drive without laboriously re-installing everything. Can
Windows XP Home transfer itself to the new HD for me, apps, documents and
all ?
Cheers,
Your best bet is to download the Disk Manager utility from
the manufacturer of the new hard drive. This utility will
allow you to copy the old drive to the new.
Basically install the new drive as Master and change the
old drive as slave. Boot to the Disk Manager disk and
follow the on-screen instruction to copy the contents of
the old disk to the new disk.
Once done, you can remove or keep the old disk as slave.
Once in WinXP on the new disk, format the old disk if you
want to keep it for data.
Hope this helps!
