A client has obtained a cd containing important information. He has sent the
word documents (Word 97 we believe) to another client - via email. However
the receiver has a newer version of MS Word (Office 03) and the writing has
changed to little box symbols. How can I change the symbols so that I can
read the document?

Hi

1. Do not open the files from the CD.

2. Use Windows Explorer to copy the files from the CD to the hard drive.

3. Use File > Open to open the file from the hard drive. In the File > Open
dialog box, make sure that the "Files of type" box says "Word documents".

Hope this helps.

The documents are currently on my hard drive. I have tried what you suggested
but it did not work :( they symbols are still there. On Monday I will receive
the CD that contains the documents. Should I try opening the documents
directly from the CD? Also, will Word 2003 open these old documents properly
or should I download a converter or something?

help needed: I did not receive the cd today and will not be receiving it in
the future. So I have to fix the problem without the cd. Is there a program
that will translate the whole document from symbols back to english?????
