Transfer FSMO to another DC

Hi,

Encounter problem on transfer Domain Naming Master role to another
additional DC. The error is:
The transfer of the current operations master role cannot be performed for
the following reason: Only DSAs configured to be Global Catalog servers
should be allowed to hold the Domain Naming Master FSMO role.

Is it that, my main DC need to be down before i do any transfer for Domain
Naming Master and Schema Master.

I still have some sevices installed on my main DC, thought of just transfer
all FSMO roles over to additional DC first.

Can anyone advise.

Just make the other DC a Global Catalog. After that you'll be able to
transfer the Domain Naming Master role.

Haven't heard of this requirement, but I'd suggest that if you have a
single forest/domain, that you make all your DC's a GC.

yep the domain naming master needs to be on a GC. except in forest
functional level windows 2003 the domain naming master does not need to be
on a GC
