Transfer from hard drive

I am having my 16 mm film digitally transferred to hard drive. Will I be able
to edit using movie maker? With what file type should I have the transfer
made?
 
dv.avi

No other type of avi.

Once this is on the hard drive it is just aquestion of imort video file and
browse to it's location.
