transfer files from .xls to contacts

New computer = vista with Office 2007
Old computer = XP
Moved contacts from old outlook to excel (.xls) to new machine and directed
outlook to import to contacts. It seems to be ready but the transfer goes on
without ever showing any progress on the bar that should gradually go to
green.

Why on EARTH did you do it that way? Did you not do ANY research first on
how to transfer Outlook data from one machine to another?

Why are you doing that? Just copy the original PST from the old PC to the
new PC on a memory stick or by putting the old PC's hard drive in the new
PC. Open that old PST in the new Outlook. You'll then have access to all
its data in one go. Make it the delivery location and you're back exactly
as your were on the old machine.
