Tracking in different colours

Hi
Question 1. I have received a tracked document for for my review from a one
person. I would like to further track the changes and sent to yet another
person. I would like my changes to be in different colours without changing
the colours for the changes already tracked by this other person. I know I
can differentiate between the two reviewers by placing my mouse on the change
but how can I show them in different colours.
Question 2. These options are available only on the machine one is working
from. If I email the document to someone is there a way I can ensure he sees
the colours I have chosen and not based on his machine settings?
Thanks
Anup

If you set the colors to "By Author" on the Track Changes tab of Tools |
Options, then a different color will be used for each reviewer, but you have
no control over what color is used for a specific reviewer, and they will
change from one machine to another.

My settings in Word 2002 are set track changes by "By Author", however there
are problems.

1. I receive a document and then compare it to my initial document.
2. The changes between those documents are shown in red and I then save that
revised document with the changes shown in red.
3. Then when I try and modify that revised document to alter the changes
that were made, my changes are shown in red, desptie the fact the setting is
set to Track Changes By Author.
4. Therefore, I am unable to distinguish between the initial changes and my
new changes.

What am I doing incorrect? Do the documents have to have exact same name in
order for Track changes by Author to work? THat isn't helpful if you want to
maintain separate versions on file.

Thanks.

Hi Craig,

If you compared the two documents, and then did the other changes, you are
the author of all the changes. So it's not surprising that they got the same
color.

If you want the latter changes a different color, you'll have to lie to Word
about your name (Tools > Options > User information) after you compare the
documents.

Regards,
Klaus
