When I power up my PC for the day and it comes up with the desk top
ready for work. At this point if I did nothing else it would start the
process of loging on to the internet, (I have a dial up connection). To
prevent this I have changed the properties to prompt me for a phone
number otherwise it connects me with my server/browser. Even when I am
doing something with MSWord, excel, quicken or anything it will start
the process and I have to cancel. This started a couple weeks ago and
not sure what has changed. I thought it might be some ad program so have
installed SpyBot to check it out. Still doing it and driving me crazy,
(short trip). Any thoughts?
Set your dial-up to "Never dial a connection"(Internet Options,
Connections, click the radio button and OK). The cause is likely to be
some software or anti-virus that you have installed, that is set to
check for updates. Inspect the settings for those softwares.
