track changes between versions of Word

my client is upgrading from Word '97 to Word '02, and the users have noticed
that when documents with changes tracked in '97 are opened in '02 the changes
don't show up - at all. Clicking on Review changes produces a "no changes in
doc" message. This has happened several times. Has anyone else seen this?
Suggestions? we're stumped!

Problems with "track changes" documents moving from pre-Word 2002 to Word 2002
and later do seem to be all too common. The functionality was changed radically
and, while MS tried to do their best with compatibility, apparently a little bit
of document damage goes a long way towards Word not being able to recognize the
changes correctly in a later version. However...

I do notice that you don't mention displaying the "Reviewing" toolbar and trying
to display "Final with markup" or "Original with markup". Have you tried that?
