You need a firewall, antivirus program, and spyware cleaning program. These
are all available free on the net. Some suggestions:
Firewall---zonealarm, sygate, outpost, XP's builtin ICF
Antivirus---AVG, AVAST
Spyware Cleaning---Spybot Search And Destroy, Adaware
