tracert not working

S

S.L.NARASIMHAM

when i try to run the tracert to a particular host(any host) the command
window opens --says trying to trace route to ------ over 30 hops then in the
next line it says 1 and puts out 3 asterisks and says request timed out. 2.
3 asterisks and request timed out.
same with gimme ip also.
i am not able to run a trace.
same with the ping command also.
i run windows xp with all the patches regularly downloaded and installed.
i have zone alarm installed but both tcp/ip ping command and tcp/ip
traceroute command are permitted in the trusted as well as internet zones
under both access and server categories.
where is the problem? with my local isp? in my system? have i tweaked
something unknowingly?
thanking you in advance,

So, the end-node isn't a traceable node with the routers not being resolvable. That does
NOT mean TRACERT.EXE is not working. It means you don't understand how TRACERT.EXE works
and the possible output displays you may see.
