touchpad information

When I installed a USB mouse, and turned off my touchpad
on my Toshiba 5205 laptop, My Synaptics touchpad put a
popup help icon, whenever I started Windows XP. The
Synaptics touchpad help icon had a deselect key, so I
deselected 'show at startup'. Despite being deselected,
I get the icon whenever I start Windows. How can I
prevent this icon from slowing my computer, if the 'show
at startup' deselection does not work?

I have since re-enabled my touchpad, to no avail. The
icon persists regardless.

I have a synaptics touchpad which I disabled by going into control
panel,mouse,mouse properties,device settings and selecting "disable". Also
check items like remove from taskbar as appropriate.
