Some countries/regions, such as Germany, have laws that regulate automatic
tracking of the time you spend working on a computer. If your location
specified on your computer is a country/region that regulates automatic
tracking of work, the Total editing time (File menu, Properties dialog box,
Statistics tab) is turned off.
Thanks Brian for your response!
The thing is that I am in America, using an Office program that I bought
here. I checked regional settings, they are all American.
And on my old laptop, Word would track the editing time on all documents -
with the exact same Office program!
Something changed, and I'm trying to figure out what it is...
OK, I solved the problem. Thanks Brian to pointing out that in some countries
the timing option is illegal, that was a good clue.
What needed to be changed was not the regional settings on Windows (which
were set to the US) but the default language in the Office language settings
(Start-Microsoft Office-Microsoft Office Tools-Microsoft Office 2003 Language
Settings). My default language was German.
This hardly makes any sense- can't I live in the US but write documents in a
language other than English??
But at least it is working now.
