I am running Windows XP Media Center edition. Installed and
ran scan and did all Microsoft recommnded to remove many
many files. Now I am in deep trouble. !. No internet
connection(cable direct) 2 Error message: error loading
C: Prog~1Newdot~1\newdot~3.dll the specific module could
not be found 3 NO taskbar at bottom. I can not bring it
up. NO start button. 4 No program icon will respond.
nothing opens up. 5 Worst of all after 40 seconds after
desktop opens I get a message saying THe System is
shuttung down. This has been initiated by NT
Authority\System. Windows must now restart because Remote
Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly.
What am I supposed to do? Even the safe mode terminates early.

I downloaded Microsoft Antispy as well and that happened
to me too. Only way I could fix it was to use my PC's
recovery CD, I couldn't even open system restore.

Souns like you have been hit by spyware and possibly some
variant of the sasser virus. Dou you have SP1 or SP2
installed?

Use LSPFIX from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm or WinsockXPFix from
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html to fix your internet
access problem.

Run msconfig from the run command and remove the entry in your startup that
is asking for newdot - her is more info on newdot -
http://www.geocities.com/merijn_bellekom/new/nonewdotnet.html

For the rebooting problem try to get this fix tool and run it quickly before
it reboots - http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxSasser.exe

I would recommend fixing the sasser worm infection first.

Once your machine seems to be stable, reboot to safe mode and run MSAS
again and see what you get.

Also, get a good antivirus program that will scan your email and keep it up
to date!

Ring back here if you can't make any progress.

If you can't get your PC working enough to backup your
valuable data and pics to another drive, consider
removing the hard drive and installing it in another PC
as a slave long enough to scan it and remove your data
and pics.
Be aware that just because an anti-virus program says
there are problems on a PC in the scan results report
does not mean you should remove anything until you get a
second opinion from another anti-spyware application, and
check out the items using a google search, or go to
CastleCops or something to learn what each item really
is. Some results are legitimate items that the PC needs,
some are items that can go either way, and some are true
malware.

spyware.htm#trustworthy and
