Toshiba Satellite 315CDS memory

Tom Hubin

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite 315CDS with 32MB of built in RAM. I would
like to increase.

Some websites say only 64MB can be added while others say 128MB can be
added. Which is true?

How do I get to it? I have removed all the screws I can find on the
bottom, including 2 in the battery compartment and 1 in the hard drive
compartment.

Hello Mike,

I searched the web for about 3 hours. Close to 1 hour of that was poking
around the Toshiba website. Lots of sales hype there for new products
but nothing much for laptop tech support or manuals.

Is there another user list that might be helpful about an old Toshiba
laptop?

I found those specs earlier Monday but I also need to know how to get
inside the laptop to do the installation.

So, after a couple more hours poking around the Toshiba site I can
report the following:

"Ask Iris" (their search engine?) says the memory installation procedure
is in the user's guide but the user's guide link is a dead end.

"Ask Iris" found a zipped user's guide in a self unzipping and
installing executable. I downloaded and installed. The result is not a
simple PDF file or something else readable. Their program to display the
user's guide is a pain and I had to reboot more than once when it locked
up my machine.

The downloaded and installed user's guide says that the memory
installation procedure is described in the user's guide "Putting it All
Together" chapter. However, that chapter does not exist in this user's
guide.

So, I am still trying to find out the mechanics of installing additional
memory on the Toshiba 315CDS laptop.

I have another old Toshiba of some sort around here with a removable
cover just for the memory. So at least it is obvious what to open on
some Toshiba models. But this one has me stumped and I really don't
relish the idea of removing every screw I can find and prying on
everything that looks like it might be held in by a springy plastic tab.

Well, I downloaded the user guide here, http://tinyurl.com/abqv2 but it
says to "see user guide" for instructions to replace the memory. Which
aren't there of course. I'd just take the damn thing apart. HTH..
