Toshiba laptop gets new OS & now drives don't work

I recently had to install Windows XP onto a Toshiba laptop that was running Windows 2000. It was having problems and I was out of town and needed a repair disk. I went and bought XP upgrade in order to fix the problem. Problem is fixed but now I have problems reading the 3.5 floppy drive as well as the PCMCIA slot. When the disk is inserted (in either of them), I get the response that the disk is not formatted and would I like to format it. I used the same disk on other systems and it read just fine so there is no problem with the disks. Just the disk drives. I believe there is an issue between having drivers setup for 2000 versus the new XP OS. Is that what the problem is you think? And how do I go about updating the drivers on this Toshiba laptop to make sure that they are XP compatible? Toshiba's website is horrible and I couldn't find anything there to help me
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
