Using Outlook Express, does anyone know how to configure to make it
automatically place the cursor for bottom posting
when replying to a post? Personally i like bottom posting so I can read the
original message first so I can tell what the reply is referring to.

No such setting in OE. You'll have to use a third party newsreader. Some
others have this option.
In general, hardcore newsgroup users bottom post cause thats how it was done
in the old days(a few years ago). But now that times have changed and many
people access these groups for the first time and know nothing about
newsgroups, I usually top post the answers cause most new users don't
understand you have to scroll down to see the answer in a bottom post. If
the answer isn't right in front of them at the top, many times it gets
missed. If the user bottom posts and I reply I will then bottom post to keep
consistenty in the thread. It's almost impossible to do one or the other all
the time. If you top post all the time, hardcore users get mad, and if you
bottom post all the time your answer gets missed alot. Going with the flow
is the best solution. :o)

I HATE bottom posting. When I'm reading all the replies, I've already seen
the original message. Why do I want to read it again over and over?! Just
write your message at the top, so I can see it right away without having to
scroll down and figure out where somebody wrote it (since a lot of people
actually put their own messages after the reply sign ">" which is dumb).

There is no way with Outlook Express to do what you want. However
you might want to try the freeware OE-Quotefix at
http://flash.to/oe-quotefix/ It can do that other useful things.

Bottom posting makes it so much easier to follow the entire thread of
the discussion.

Not if the bottom-posters never snip the irrelevant portions of
the sometimes several posts in the thread.
