Tools > Options do not stick when user opens up Word

We use Win 2000 and MS office standard. One user complains that the options
she sets in the Tools menu disappear upon reopening Word. Any fix known for
this?
 
This can indicate a damaged Word Data key (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm), but it can also
result from the meddling of a poorly written add-in.
