Okay, so I tried something. I even right clicked in the toolbar space, and
unchecked standard so now at the top is just file, edit, etc. Closed
outlook and reopened it, and holy cow, the standard toolbar is back. Any
help would be greatly appreciated so I can get my view preference to hold.
Thanks.

Here is what I did before.

Hi. I am using outlook 2000. I had my outlook set up so that I had the
standard toolbar and the advanced toolbar on separate rows at the top.
However recently, I noticed that the standard toolbar was the only one in
the window. I right clicked in an empty space in the toolbar and checked
advanced, and it appeared. However, when I closed outlook, then reopened
it, I was back to square one where only the standard toolbar was in view. I
did the detect and repair, but it didn't work. Any ideas on what is wrong
and what to do to fix it?
Thanks.

i'd like to add that my tool bars are always moving around - is there a way
to LOCK them?

Thx
Nick k

Try renaming your outcmd.dat file to outcmd.old while Outlook is closed.
Outlook will rebuild the default toolbars the next time you open it. If
your toolbars "stick" after doing this, then you know it was the outcmd.dat
file causing the problem. Make sure to make a backup of the new outcmd.dat
file so you can restore it if you ever run into the same problem again.

Note: If you're using Windows 2000 or XP, you'll need to search in hidden
and system folders to find the outcmd.dat file.
