Toolbar irritant

Outlook 2003, XP Pro.

I have two Toolbars, Standard & Formatting, on my New Messages page. I
select the option to have the buttons on one line and it works, but
every time I open the New Message page, or Reply to or Forward a
message, the Toolbars are back on separate lines. There is enough room
on one line for all the buttons on both toolbars to be displayed, with
room to spare.

How does one lock the toolbars in Outlook?

option, several reinstalls ago, so I don't do that any more. I did
neutralize the outcmd.dat file and that solved the 2-line problem, but
I noticed that several of the other Outlook screens lost their
Customization settings.

Outlook remember the 1 line setting that's working?

as an editor? Would that have an impact on the Toolbar options?

I'm very sure of that one but resetting is sometimes the only way to solve
the issue. I always recommend renaming it to .old so just in case it doesn't
solve the issue you can rename it back .dat

When composing a message you can set your Toolbar options;
View-> Toolbars-> Customize-> tab Options. Deselect the top one.

If these are third party Toolbars (from add-ins for example) the location of
the Toolbar is maintained by the add-in itself; not Outlook. So if that
Toolbar is "all over the place" contact the vendor of that add-in.

Yes, then the management of Toolbars would be controlled by Word and you
would have access to Word Toolbars instead of Outlook Toolbars.

Thanks for those explanations Roady. I did rename outcmd.dat to .old,
to neutalize it, then went back and reset all of my Toolbar
customizations. Outlook created a new outcmd.dat file and seems to be
retaining them now. We'll see what happens. Will delete the .old file
after a bit.

BTW, no add-ins, all Outlook toolbars.
