Toolbar Buttons Change Constantly

This has been a recurring problem for me with Win Mail any Vista build. The toolbar buttons change constantly (won't stick with what I right click and select) and the bar gets filled with the ones I could care less about and boots the ones I want and need.

Any help with this much appreciated. Tia.

Clueless

I'm not doing the live mail stuff. But there are dynamic toolbars all over the place in Vista. The idea is to provide buttons in context with what you're doing at the moment so you're not always digging through menus to find stuff.

For example, if you click an e-mail message header in Mail, you get options relevant to an e-mail message. If you click a newsgroup message header, you get options relevant to a newsgroup message. It's supposed to work that way. They're not changing at random though. If you're aware of what you're doing under the toolbar, it will all make perfect sense.

I thought this was fixed in the build you are using now. Maybe its a subsequent one.

I think you may find that problem has been fixed (although not completely)
in later builds than 5384 which is a little "long in the tooth" at this
time. Beta testers are running v. 5472.5 which has many changes to the
toolbar buttons with more promised in later builds. It is after all, still
a "beta" program.

I made this workaround: I saved some registry settings in this .reg file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Mail]
"Saved Toolbar Settings"=hex:11,9e,00,00,f0,9c,00,00,f1,9c,00,00,f4,9c,00,00,\

ff,ff,ff,07,9d,00,00,c4,9c,00,00,ff,ff,ff,ff,7f,9d,00,00,80,9d,00,00,ff,ff,\
ff,ff,fa,9c,00,00,fb,9c,00,00
"Saved Toolbar Settings Version"=dword:00000011

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\News]
"Saved Community Toolbar Settings"=hex:12,9e,00,00,f2,9c,00,00,f0,9c,00,00,f4,\
9c,00,00,ff,ff,ff,ff,b4,9c,00,00,dd,9c,00,00,ff,ff,ff,ff,01,9d,00,00,ff,ff,\

ff,7f,9d,00,00,80,9d,00,00,ff,ff,ff,ff,fa,9c,00,00,fb,9c,00,00
"Saved Toolbar Settings Version"=dword:00000011
"Saved Toolbar Settings"=hex:12,9e,00,00,f2,9c,00,00,f0,9c,00,00,f4,9c,00,00,\

Some of these keys disappear from the registry when Windows Mail is closed, and are restored to their defaults when it is opened again. I run the .reg file in between to prevent this. Your preferences might be different.

Cluless--

This problem has nothing to do with Live Mail. It has nothing to do with Vista's dyanmic toolbars whatsoever and Vista per se except that Win Mail comes with Vista.

The idea of what I'm seeing is incompetence because it has been bugged to death since last July when Vista hit the delivery room and through a kazillion builds now 2 past Beta 2 it ain't been fixed. It is inconceivable that the Win Mail team would have been sitting around a table with their laptops staring at it and saying "Duh it's a Beta--we'll get it fixed in a year or eightenn months worth of builds and after a bout 10 or so we won't have fixed it. Those toolbar buttons are central to using Win Mail the sequel to OE and while all of us understand the Beta the utter failure to get the toolbar buttons to stay put is pure incompetence on their part and their PMs period.

It's not dynamic toolbars even remotely. It's toolbar buttons that zing around like a game of Halo 2.
