I just reinstalled (reformat included) Win2K so I could get rid of a problem with the soundcard. i have the following items config'd to IRQ1
-PCI network adapter (realtek), AGP video card (NVidia-PNY) running in PCI mode*, soundcard (Predator 5.1 from Maddog) and two USB controllers as well as the ACPI-Compliant system.
What's going on here?

With IRQ Sharing, that should not, necessarily, be a problem, but conflicts
do happen. If you want to "hard-wire" a device to a particluar IRQ, I
believe you'll need to do that in the system BIOS.

I am having a similar problem and just created a new post
about IRQ conflicts. I have 3 different OSes and no
matter what I do I can not stop the conflict between the
NIC and the graphics adapter. None of the articles about
Basic Configuration and Resouce assignments help. I have
no authority in W2K Pro or WinXP on my own home PCs.

It's called IRQ sharing and is how Windows 2000 manages the resources on
an ACPI configured PCI motherboard.

Move the NIC to a different slot(changes the primary hardware IRQ line
see details in your motherboard manual) is the usual fix when you have
two card that won't play nice

W2K can be a real stinker when it comes to assigning
IRQs. If you do not use wireless, go into the services
and disable them to free some resources. I do not know
how many PCI card you are using but if possible do not use
slots 1 and 5. They usually share the graphics adapter
IRQ but not always. Using BIOs setting for the IRQ may
not help because W2K will use the Basic Configuration to
determine the disposition of the IRQs. Do a search on
Basic Configuration to learn more about resource
assignment. If you have full administrative control of
you OS, you can right click on the PCI Bus in the Device
Manage and select properties to see if there are options
(settings) available to you there that might help.
Win98SE uses that approach. Try right clicking on the
offending device listed ing the Device Manager and
selecting properties. Then uncheck the 'Use Automatic
Settings' box. If you have sufficient authority, you can
then select the IRQ resource and change the setting.
After that do a shutdown and then restart. It might help
to set the BIOs to correspond to your change in the device
manager. Choose wisely when you decide which IRQ to use!
