Too many fields defined

When I try to save changes to a table in design view, I
keep getting the below error:

Too many fields defined. (Error 3190)
You tried to perform an operation that involves more than
255 fields. Reduce the number of fields, and then try the
operation again.

But, I do not have 255 fields defined.

Any help is greatly appreciated

compact and repair your db. more than likely you have a lot of fields and
have either been adding and deleting, or altering the field after saving the
table. Access counts these and does not reduce the count when you delete
automatically.
