Access 2003 field errors

DorothyS

I have received the error below. I have 238 fields and have also tried the
compact and repair feature. Nothing works. Does anyone have a clue what the
problem could be?

Thank you!

Too many fields defined. (Error 3190)
You tried to perform an operation that involves more than 255 fields. Reduce
the number of fields, and then try the operation again.

238 fields is still too many.
Where is this error occurring?
Do you have any tables with this many columns? What kind of data does this
table hold?
You may need to redesign your database.
What did you change that started this error happening?

You probably had some other fields and deleted them. My understanding is the
'compact and repair' does not forget/eliminate them.

Why so many fields? Maybe you need Excel instead of Access. Post what you
are trying to accomplish and maybe someone can suggest a better way to do it.

Since we're not there, we can't see where/when this happens.

What are you attempting to do when you get this error message?
