Too Buggy

Windows Vista is a fine OS and a great achievement towards advancement just
like every OS since Windows 95. Has a few bugs that they will probably fix
when possible but the OS runs pretty darn good already.

Windows Mail on the other hand is so buggy, temperamental and restrictive
not only is it hardly worth using it makes you appreciate what you had in
Outlook Express. With Windows Mail it just seems to be one issue after
another. Everything from Not Responding to stuck emails to to no hotmail
access to Needs to Close to opening attachments, etc., etc. Yes you can
massage each of these issues depending on what the issue dujour for the day
is but when all you want to do is get your mail quickly who has time for
that every day?

Perhaps in the future Microsoft may find a way to fix if they think it's
even worth the effort. My personal experience with Windows Mail is one of
disappointment. I have spent more time trying to make it work and scouring
fine newsgroups such as this one for ways to make it worth than I can
express. Thunderbird is okay, but as yet can't hold a candle to what Outlook
Express was in spite of all the belly aching.

For me, at least for now the only logical way to deal with Windows Mail is
don't use it at all and keep my XP laptop on the desk so I can use O.E.

Try Thunderbird for a robust free Email progs for Vista which, IMO,
isn't wildly different from OE and many say is better.

Thunderbird is a pretty good substitute and am certain lots of folks just
love it but, IMHO, Outlook Express was better.

Maybe so, but nostalgia ain't what it used to be
and pining for Outlook Express pointless.

Who knows, let the race begin maybe Thunderbird will out pace Windows Mail
in the race to be all that Outlook Express is plus better. Already,
Thunderbird seems to require less effort to function than Windows Mail. The
only two things I've missed in Thunderbird that OE has was Combine and
Decode and the ability to preview the first part of a multi-part post.
However, both OE and Thunderbird do present less of a challenge to make
function as intended.

I've gotten so confused with Windows Mail, Live Mail, Live Mail Desktop,
etc etc etc, that I've just given up on all of them and gone back to
Thunderbird 2 which operates just fine on Vista. Used to complain about
the confusion MS caused with Outlook and Outlook Express, but that ain't
got nuthin' on this mess. All I can gather from it all is that they are
determined to get us all "live", and I prefer to d/l and look after my
own emails thank you very much.

Comforting to know I am not alone on this sentiment and there are at least
two other people in the world that feel pretty close to my level
exasperation with Windows Mail.

You can combine and decode from Thunderbird but I still prefer a
dedicated app for binaries..

Unfortunately Microsoft hasn't devoted much time to improving WinMail (OE).
The MVPs have pushed for changes, but the emphasis is on the Windows Live
"technologies" at the expense of OE / WinMail development, and we can't
fight that with any success. The saga towards "fixing" OE continues.

Am hoping with all the smart folks they have in their employ they may see
the error in their sacrifice of O.E./WinMail eventually. That will give me
the opportunity to take the old XP laptop off the desk again and return to
using a single computer.

I did not know that you could combine and decode in Thunderbird. Maybe I
have an older version of it or need new glasses.

The method described, apart from being labour intensive, also
stretches the meaning of "Thunderbird being able to C & D"
to the very extremes of language.

LOL, you can say that again. It's easier to keep the old XP laptop up and
running on the desk to access O.E.

I wonder as anybody asked Mr. Gates if he is proud of Win Mail?
