TOC includes text that has Normal style

I am using Office 2003. I have some text in my document that is appearing in
the TOC but I never intended for it to be there, which is why I formatted
using normal style, rather than a Heading Style. Could it be that someone
used field codes to set that text to be a part of TOC? How do I find out
and how do I get rid of it. THank you very much.
 
If you've confirmed that the text in question is still formatted as Normal,
you can look for TC codes by displaying "Hidden text" (the Show/Hide ¶
button on the Standard toolbar will toggle the display of this along with
other nonprinting characters).
 
Also, note that the TOC by default includes text formatted with an outline
level different from "Body Text" (Format | Paragraph, Indents and Spacing
tab). Press Ctrl+Q to remove outline levels (as well as any other paragraph
formatting) from the paragraph in question. If you are using the Document
