When downloading utilities such a Spyblaster, CWShredder, Adaware, Spybot
S&D, is it better to save to your computer or to just open and install?? I
always hit save but am not sure if I am doing the right thing. Thanx
again........Patty

You want to save them so you can reinstall later if need be. I never
install from the web. Always download and install offline. Often times
an AV program will interfere with installation, so downloading, going
off line and turning off the AV program, after you've scanned the file
for viruses, of course, then install.

You can do either. If you open without saving, if you ever need
it again, you'll have to download it again. If you save it first,
you won't.

I always hit save but am not sure if I am doing the right
thing.

It's not a matter of "right" vs "wrong." You've taken the more
conservative approach, and that's fine, unless you're short of
disk space.

I maintain a library of the executables in case I need to
reinstall, but consider this they do take up a little
space, I also burn these utilities to a disk so that if a
friend has such severe issues I can install them to clean
their machines and get them going, so in essense the
choice is yours.

Did you not know that it is only 1 question per guest? LOL
Did you find the utility to uninstall? I posted it for you.
in regards to save or open, my opinion is to save the file
this way your anti-virus has a chance to scan it, if you
open it it will excecute immediatly.

good luck

This is for SteveL. Yes, I read what I have to do in that thread but
haven't had a chance to do it yet. I want to make sure I get it right
before I go messing things up. Being that I have to go to work soon, I will
uninstall it tomorrow and then install my free antivirus software. Thanx
for your help. Patty
P.S. Is that one post per guest per day or lifetime??? lol

I always save the primary installation file and then run it. It means I
have an archive of such things (on a separate partition of the disk)
that I can use again if need be.

When it comes to updates of signatures for things like Adaware or AV, I
just let them download and install
