to many emails being scanned

Hi,
I have Outlook 2003 installed and also Symantec Antivirus 9. When I send an
email a Symatec box appears at the bottom of the screen and tells me that is
is scanning the email. Sometimes it says that it is scanning 2 items even
though I have only sent one and I am not recieving any. A few moments ago it
poped up and said that it was scanning 1 email but I didn't have any to send
and I haven't recieved any either. Is this normal?

I have Zonealarm installed, my connection is through a Draytek Router and I
am sure that I have no spyware or virus on my system. Also there is no sign
of any emails sent in the sent items folder except the ones that I wanted to
send.

I am sure that this is probably normal but thought I would check

Check if you have any filters set up on your outlook. Do you have any blocked
Email addresses?
That's might eb what it's scanning :) And then they are goung right to your
"deleted" :)
