TNEF.001 attachments

We're migrating from Groupwise 6.5 to Outlook 2007. When an Outlook users
sends an email with an attachment the GW user gets the attachment as
TNEF.001. They can only right click on the attachment, select Open With and
open the file. This is problematic if the recipient is unaware of the file
type received. What is the fix for this?

Thank you.

try having your people send their messages in Plain Tet or HTML format
instead of Rich Text.

Sorry that does not work. All users have plain text as the default mail
format. We still get TNEF.001 when GW users look at the email. Also
happens with HTML from the sender.

The default format of Plain Text can be overridden by settings within a
contact record. Check to see if that's the case.

Hello Brian

Sorry that's not the case either. Example: my Outlook as the default of
plain text in Tools>Options. Of course I can override this in each email.
I'm still getting users who get the TNEF.001 extension whether I send as
plain text or HTML. I'm the senior trainer here with approx 100 users on
Outlook and 600 users on GroupWise. My configuration is the same as everyone
else's.

What else could it be? Am I missing something?

Thank you

That's not what I said. I said a Contact setting can override it and asked
you to check that. Are the GroupWise people in your Contacts folder? If
so, open one of those contact records and double-click the email address.
What do you see?

Sorry to continue to bother you. I'm happy you're helping me with this.

The contacts names/email are in the global address book not in users
contacts folders. When I try to open the email address in the GAL no
information is given beyond name and email address.

I'm afraid, then, that I can't help you. It sounds to me like you should be
asking your Exchange admins to help. Perhaps if you also asked in
microsoft.public.exchange.admin, someone would be able to suggest something.
